1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Schola application ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App. These Terms apply to all users of the App, including teachers, students, and parents or guardians.
Schola is operated by Decoded Lemon ("we," "us," or "our"). By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms.
2. Description of Service
Schola is a digital classroom management platform designed to facilitate communication and homework tracking between teachers, students, and parents. The App allows:
- Teachers to create and assign homework, manage groups, and track completion in real-time.
- Students to view assignments, track deadlines, mark tasks complete, and join classes via invite codes.
- Parents and guardians to access assignment information through shared public links.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the App at any time without prior notice.
3. User Accounts and Registration
To access certain features of the App, you must create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration.
- Maintain the security of your account credentials and not share your password with others.
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
- Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or engage in fraudulent or harmful activity.
4. User Roles and Permissions
Schola operates on a role-based access system. Each role carries specific permissions:
- Teachers may create groups, assign homework, generate public share links, and view student completion data within their groups.
- Students may view and interact with assignments in groups they are members of. Students may only join groups via valid invite codes or links provided by a teacher.
- Guests / Parents accessing the App via a public share link may only view the specific assignment information associated with that link.
You must not attempt to access features or data outside of your assigned role.
5. Children's Privacy and COPPA Compliance
The App may be used by children under the age of 13. We are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar applicable regulations.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental or institutional consent.
- Student accounts for users under 13 must be created and managed by a teacher or school administrator operating within an educational context.
- Parents or guardians may request the deletion of their child's data by contacting us at [email protected].
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the App to:
- Post, transmit, or share any content that is unlawful, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable.
- Impersonate any person or entity, including teachers, students, or school administrators.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the App or its backend systems.
- Use the App for any commercial purposes outside of its intended educational use.
- Interfere with or disrupt the App's infrastructure or servers.
- Collect or harvest any personal information of other users without consent.
7. Data Privacy and Security
We take your privacy seriously. Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
- We implement role-based access controls to ensure users can only access data relevant to their role.
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- We do not sell personal data to third parties.
- Real-time synchronization and offline data storage are handled securely on-device and via encrypted cloud services.

8. Offline Functionality
Schola provides offline support for certain features. When offline, data is cached locally on your device. Upon reconnection, data is synchronized with our servers. We are not responsible for data conflicts or loss that may arise from extended offline use or device failure.
9. Public Share Links
Teachers may generate public share links for assignments. By creating a public link, you acknowledge that:
- The linked assignment information will be accessible to anyone with the link without requiring an account.
- You are responsible for exercising judgment about what information is included in publicly shared assignments.
- We are not responsible for the distribution of public links beyond the App.
Teachers may revoke public links at any time from within the App.
10. Intellectual Property
All content, features, and functionality of the App — including but not limited to the software, design, text, graphics, and logos — are the exclusive property of Decoded Lemon and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
You retain ownership of any content you create or upload within the App (such as assignment descriptions). By submitting content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store and display that content solely for the purpose of providing the App's services.
11. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Decoded Lemon shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data or educational outcomes, arising from your use of the App.
12. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes through the App or via email. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
13. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at our discretion, without notice, for conduct that we determine violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties.
14. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in South Africa.
